A la Recherche du Temps Perdu.
Remembrance of lost time or remembrance of things past.

The model for the painting, Mimi Scherb, was an actress when younger.
I never knew her stage name. One of her notable roles was in a movie, 1949, I believe, The Snake Pit. It was quite an advanced film for that time.

It was about a woman, played by Olivia the Haviland, having a nervous breakdown, and being committed to a mental institution. It filmed her breakdown and recovery very sensitively.

A film, that would probably be called a docudrama, today.

Mimi, played one of the inmates at the institution. She still remembered her lines, probably 40 years later!

I felt at the time, everyone is painting sort of attractive, shapely nudes.

Mimi carried herself, her age and her body, with a quiet dignity.
That was the quality I tried to capture in my painting.
